History on Tap: Behind the Screams
History on Tap: Behind the Screams is creeping into the Cleveland History Center this October!
This Halloween edition of our after-hours happy hour series peels back the curtain on the artistry that makes horror come alive. The activities invite participants to think about how character identity is built through clothing and adornment, reflecting the role of textiles and design in film storytelling. We will also feature the artistry of special effects makeup, where techniques and materials are demonstrated as part of creating character illusions. Like costumes, makeup is a decorative art that relies on craft, design, and the manipulation of materials to transform the human body into a storytelling canvas. Together, these elements highlight how costume design and cosmetic artistry are adapted for film to bring characters vividly to life.
What to expect:
- Live demos
- Prop and costume displays
- Full museum access
- Costume contest
Sip a themed cocktail, explore the museum after dark, and meet the makers behind the monsters. Horror nerds, film buffs, all welcome! Costumes highly encouraged.
