Look & Learn: An Introduction to American Furniture of the 18th and the Early 19th Centuries
This new course introduces participants to the objects, materials, and tools of a specific era. You will develop skills in identifying, assessing, and contextualizing furniture through visual analysis. The program also includes a guided visit to the Delaware Antiques Show for a curated preview of items.
Each session builds on the last, deepening understanding and appreciation of American furniture from the 18th and early 19th centuries. No homework is required, and all study materials and supplies are provided. Note: the November 8 session takes place at the Delaware Antiques Show, Chase Center at the Riverfront, Wilmington, DE.
The series is taught by Brock Jobe, professor emeritus of American decorative arts, and Gregory Landrey, senior furniture conservator emeritus and affiliated associate professor.
