Catherine Carlisle Named New Manager of Educational Programs

May 31, 2022

Catherine CarlisleThe Decorative Arts Trust is thrilled to welcome Catherine Carlisle to our team. In her role as Manager of Educational Programs, Catherine will conceptualize, coordinate, and facilitate Study Trips Abroad, Symposia, and colloquia, as well as special programs and virtual events.

Catherine joins the Trust with demonstrated success in public programming, marketing, and development, and a background in art history and decorative arts. She has previously served as Director of Engagement for both the Classical American Homes Preservation Trust (CAHPT) and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA). In these previous posts, she oversaw the content, logistics, and marketing for popular programs, including various lectures, conferences, and travel opportunities.

Catherine’s introduction to the Trust was as an emerging scholar lecturer at the 2015 Colonial Williamsburg Antiques Forum.

“What I have enjoyed the most in my positions is the opportunity to connect with constituents over a shared interest in decorative arts, and design memorable educational experiences,” Catherine shares. “I count myself among the many long-time Decorative Arts Trust admirers who appreciate its support of emerging professionals and ability to connect scholars, collectors, and enthusiasts to the world’s treasures.”

“We are excited to welcome a colleague of Catherine’s caliber to the Trust and eager for her to take the reins of our broad range of educational programs,” offers Matthew A. Thurlow, the Trust’s Executive Director. “Many of our members are familiar with her important contributions at MESDA and CAHPT, and she will hit the ground running as we tackle an ambitious slate of upcoming events.”

A native of Columbia, SC, Catherine holds degrees in art history from Queens University of Charlotte at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a graduate of the 2014 MESDA Summer Institute. Now residing in Charleston, Catherine enjoys spending her free time exploring the rich cultural offerings and historic fabric of her adopted city or letting her spirited husband coax her into joining him and their puppy on new outdoor adventures.

Be sure to connect with Catherine when you see her at future Trust events!
