Prize for Excellence and Innovation Celebration

Virtual Celebration

Monday, December 7, 2020, 7:00-8:00 pm ET

Celebrate the recipient of the inaugural Prize for Excellence and Innovation with the Decorative Arts Trust. This inspiring virtual event will feature presentations about exciting projects from our four finalists: the Cincinnati Art Museum; Craft in America; the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens; and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. The night culminates with an announcement of the 2020 Prize recipient!

After reviewing dozens of competitive applications for the $100,000 Prize, our selection committee narrowed the search to these four compelling projects:

  • The Cincinnati Art Museum is mounting a special exhibition in 2021-2022 that recreates a bedroom designed by prominent Modernist Joseph Urban.
  • Craft in America is creating a free online video database of craft tools and techniques spanning all decorative arts media.
  • The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens is planning a reinstallation of its American Art galleries.
  • And Monticello is undertaking a comprehensive reassessment of Thomas Jefferson’s Tea Room in preparation for a restoration and reinterpretation project.

The Prize for Excellence and Innovation recognizes scholarly endeavors undertaken by a non-profit organization to advance the public’s appreciation of decorative arts, fine arts, architecture, or landscape design. The Prize supports impactful and original projects that advance scholarship in the field while reaching a broad audience.

We are thrilled to share each of these projects that expand engagement and access to the arts, and we hope you can join us for this historic event! All proceeds from the event will be directed toward an endowment for future Prizes. Your generous contributions are greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged with packages of wine and gourmet food to enjoy during the program!*
