Join us for a free lecture with author Bob Frishman on the subject of his new book, Edward Duffield: Philadelphia Clockmaker, Citizen, Gentleman 1730-1803 (American Philisophical Soceity Press, 2024).

Duffield (1730–1803) was a colonial Philadelphia clockmaker, whose elegant brass, mahogany, and walnut timekeepers stand proudly in major American museums and collections. One of his clocks, made for the Haines family, still remains in the dining room at Wyck.

Frishman’s work is the first comprehensive study of Duffield, and it contextualizes the craftsman within complex networks of artisanry and exchange in colonial Philadelphia.

This program is held in partnership with Stenton, Cliveden, Historic Germantown, and Germantown Friends School.

The entrance to Friends Free Library is at 5418 Germantown Avenue. There is on-street parking available in front of the library on Germantown Ave or in the St. Luke’s/GFS parking lot at Germantown and Coulter Sts. Doors open at 6:00 and the program will begin at 6:30 PM.

Email info@wyck.org or call (215) 848-1690 with questions.
