
AJ Davis Symposium: Rural Residences, etc.
A.J. Davis Symposium: Rural Residences, Etc. looks at the diverse career of architect Alexander Jackson Davis (1803 – 1892) from his early years working with Ithiel Town and Martin Thompson to his noted later collaboration with A.J. Downing (1815 – 1852). Over two days, attendees will have the opportunity to take an in-depth look at Davis’ work as well as tour and experience first hand his lasting legacy on the American cultural landscape. On Friday, June 16, a panel of lecturers will discuss various aspects of Davis’s life and work. Then, participants will tour of the house and grounds of Locust Grove with introduction to the property by Locust Grove Executive Director Ken Snodgrass. Box lunch and refreshments included with ticket price. On Saturday, June 17, participants will tour Montgomery Place with Kathleen McManus (Director, Campus Engagement and Montgomery Place, Bard College) and also Edgewater in Barrytown. Box lunch and refreshments included with ticket price. The symposium is presented by Classical American Homes Preservation Trust (CAPHT) in partnership with Locust Grove with special thanks to Bard College.
