Made of clay found commonly throughout the eastern and southern United States, stoneware pottery was an important consumer product from the early eighteenth century into the twentieth century. The DAR Museum has been collecting early American-made stoneware since the 1940s. The American-made stoneware collection is now on display in the DAR Museum’s Study Gallery. The collection has been re-evaluated, revealing more details about its place in early American culture. Comprised of everyday household items, the collection includes kitchen storage containers, mercantile products and dairy processing vessels. Curator Carrie Blough will explore the collection, how the items came to the Museum, what types of items are in the collection and where they were made.
