Presented by Alan LeQuire Join us for a gallery talk exploring Monuments and Myths: The America of Sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French presented by Nashville sculptor Alan LeQuire. Learn about the importance of Paris to sculptors working in the 1890s as well as the women sculptors connected to Saint-Gaudens and French. About Alan LeQuire Alan LeQuireAlan LeQuire, a sculptor known for his colossal works gracing the Nashville landscape, began his artistic journey at a young age, crafting his first pieces in copper and tin at the tender age of eleven. Immersed in the world of art through his mother, a painter and art teacher, LeQuire honed his skills under the guidance of Tennessee sculptors like Olen Bryant and Puryear Mims. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, he embarked on a year-long apprenticeship in Italy, learning the intricacies of bronze casting from renowned sculptor Milton Hebald. This experience solidified his love for figurative sculpture and pastoral themes, evident in his later works. LeQuire’s signature style blends classical techniques with contemporary aesthetics, resulting in awe-inspiring sculptures like the monumental Athena Parthenos, the largest indoor sculpture in the Western Hemisphere, and the dynamic Musica, one of the biggest bronze figure groups in the world.
