Join Dr. Colleen Yarger, Curatorial Assistant for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts European and Mellon Collections, for a look inside the private world of Napoleon Bonaparte and the propaganda machine that modernized and legitimized his reign as self-titled Emperor of France. A man of continual reinvention, Napoleon used exquisite works of art to craft his image and document his political agenda. More than 200 objects—many of which have never before been exhibited in the United States—reveal the intricacies of the Emperor’s daily life and the range of commissions by and for him. This exhibition of international loans includes major masterpieces of painting, an array of sumptuous decorative arts, sculptures, engravings, and more—brought together from the Château de Fontainebleau, the Louvre, and the Musée de l’Armée in Paris.
This tour is open to all current members of the Trust but is restricted to 25 participants. As per our membership policy, members at the Benefactor-level and above may register a non-member as a guest.
