Join Linda Eaton, the John L. & Marjorie P. McGraw Director of Collections & Senior Curator of Textiles at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library for an exciting investigation into some of the most clever and costliest deceptions in the history of art during our special member’s tour of Treasures on Trial: The Art and Science of Detecting Fakes. This show draws on the expertise of Winterthur’s stellar curatorial and conservation staff to present a rare glimpse into the science and connoisseurship of that went in to detecting the more than 40 forgeries and counterfeit objects on display. Ranging from art and furniture to wine and fashion, many of these items have been the subject of major scandals and court cases. Selected objects are displayed side-by-side with their genuine counterparts, allowing visitors to test their own observational skills while learning the role science plays in detecting hidden clues.
This tour is free of charge to all Trust members but is restricted to 25 participants per tour. Registration is limited to current members of the Trust. As per our membership policy, members at the Benefactor-level and above may register a non-member as a guest.
