November 3, 2017
Join the Decorative Arts Trust on November 3rd for a special day in Newark, NJ, to honor the career of renowned curator Ulysses Grant Dietz. Mr. Dietz has served as Curator of Decorative Arts of the Newark Museum since 1980 and will be retiring in December from his post as Chief Curator. Under his leadership the museum re-envisioned the display of its outstanding holdings, and his research and exhibitions have reinvigorated popular interest in everything from 19th-century interiors to modern ceramics to antique jewelry. Members will enjoy an in-depth collections tour, including the Newark Museum’s 1885 Ballantine House and newly re-installed galleries of decorative arts. Our day will also include a visit to the nearby New Jersey Historical Society to see their collection of decorative arts and historic objects relating to the state’s history from the Colonial era to the present day. Participants will enjoy lunch in the Newark Museum’s Ballantine House.
