NEW YORK ANTIQUES WEEKEND
JANUARY 22–23, 2027
Join us for Antiques Weekend, the Decorative Arts Trust’s annual foray into the hustle and bustle of New York City’s winter auctions and fairs. This year’s program explores Brooklyn through an exciting array of museums, workshops, and private collections. This popular program sells out quickly, so we encourage you to register early!
FRIDAY, JANUARY 22, 2027
9:00 am–6:00 pm
Center for Brooklyn History
Founded in 1863 as the Long Island Historical Society, the Center for Brooklyn History is today a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library with archival collections dedicated to the development of the borough. Set amid tree-lined rows of brownstones in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, the red brick and terracotta Romanesque Revival building, designed by George B. Post and completed in 1881, houses the stately Othmer Library reading room. Our visit, hosted by Chief Historian Dominique Jean-Louis, presents an opportunity to view collection materials that offer insight into Brooklyn’s history and architectural evolution.
The Home of Rebecca Abrams and Nathan Benn
Set within a 1928 manufactory overlooking the East River, previously the site of a glassworks in the 19th century, the home of Rebecca Abrams and Nathan Benn is adorned with paneling and architectural details inspired by period rooms at Winterthur. These elements create a fitting setting for an extensive collection of Colonial and Neoclassical furniture – including an array of distinguished New York and New England work attributed to Duncan Phyfe and Thomas Seymour – silver by Joseph Lownes, early Dutch pictures, and works by notable 20th-century photographers.
Flavor Paper
Established in New Orleans in 2003 and based in Brooklyn since 2007, Flavor Paper creates fine wallpapers by combining traditional hand-operated screen-printing techniques with revolutionary designs, materials, and inks. The studio’s avant-garde designs have been acquired by the Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum; the Brooklyn Museum; and the Musée des arts décoratifs in Paris. Hosted by Founder and Creative Director Jon Sherman, our visit includes a tour and demonstration.
The Brooklyn Museum
After a convivial lunch, we continue to the Brooklyn Museum, a preeminent art institution housing an encyclopedic collection that spans antiquity to the present. In the exhibition Toward Joy: New Frameworks for American Art, we experience a thoughtful reinterpretation of the museum’s American art holdings led by Stephanie Sparling Williams, Andrew W. Mellon Curator of American Art. Our tour of the Decorative Arts and Design galleries and period rooms, led by Catherine Futter, Curatorial Chair and Senior Curator of Decorative Arts, and Liz St. George, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, offers a behind-the-scenes experience and includes the installations Building the Museum and its Collections and Brooklyn Made, an homage to art and design created in the borough from the 17th century onwards.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 23, 2027
11:00 am–5:00 pm
The Winter Show at the Park Avenue Armory
Our knowledgeable friends in the trade treat participants to private tours at the Park Avenue Armory in advance of public hours. As the leading art, antiques, and design fair in America, the Winter Show presents over 60 international dealers showcasing a dynamic selection of decorative and fine art from antiquity through the present day. In addition to our special access to the show, we attend a luncheon in the Armory’s stunning Board of Officers Room.
The home of Mary and David Andryc
Following lunch, we accept a gracious invitation into the home of Mary and David Andryc in a pre-war Beaux-Arts co-op on the Upper East Side. The Andrycs’ collection of American furniture and decorative arts was inspired by Mary’s prior experience as an Assistant Curator at the Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the US Department of State, and by a shared love for American history. The collection encompasses the late Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles, and includes objects by John Welch, Thomas Seymour, Samuel McIntire, John Pollard, Thomas Affleck, and Duncan Phyfe.
