From the Schuylkill to the Hudson: Landscapes of the Early American Republic

Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)
118-128 North Broad Street
Philadelphia, PA 19102

Join us as Anna Marley, Curator of Historical American Art and Director for the Center of the Study of the American Artist, gives members a special tour of “From the Schuylkill to the Hudson: Landscapes of the Early American Republic.” The exhibition highlights the work of famous landscape painters living and exhibiting their work in Philadelphia in the early 19th century, such as Thomas Cole, John Lewis Krimmel, and Thomas Doughty. Philadelphia’s key role in the advancement of American landscape painting is emphasized through works that showcase the manner in which Philadelphia water views, whether of the Schuylkill or the Delaware, were some of the earliest and most influential vistas within American visual culture.

This tour is open to all current members of the Trust but is restricted to 20 participants. As per our membership policy, members at the Benefactor-level and above may register a non-member as a guest. Learn more about membership.
