Giuseppe Guidicini and the Decoration of American Interiors
Giuseppe Guidicini was one of a small group of Italian immigrant artists responsible for establishing a taste for sophisticated Italianate decoration in American interiors. In her presentation, Arlene Palmer Schwind will place Guidicini’s extraordinary artistry at Victoria Mansion within the context of his career and share highlights of the role he played in transforming the visual culture of nineteenth-century America. After her talk, Arlene will be available to sign copies of her book, Bold, Designing Fellows’: Italian Decorative and Scenic Artists in Nineteenth-Century America.
