London Summer School
Open to both USA and UK residents, the annual Victorian Society in America London Summer School provides an invaluable opportunity. It is ideal for graduate students, heritage professionals, and knowledgeable enthusiasts to explore the history of British architecture, design and interiors from 1837-1914. For the first time the VSA summer school will visit Wales, to gain a more holistic understanding of the plurality of the period, concluding with the majestic work of William Burges in Cardiff. Also traversing London, the Midlands and the North of England, the summer school examines, in situ, a sample of the built and designed environment of the period. The course combines lectures, guided walks, and behind-the-scenes tours, and aims to critically celebrate the rich variety of architecture and design. Full and partial scholarships are available, and applicants for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier to participation are strongly encouraged to apply. Dr Joshua Mardell directs the Summer school for the first time.
