Please join the Decorative Arts Trust for a special half-day event at the Maryland Historical Society (MdHS) for a series of in-depth tours led by the expert curatorial staff. Founded in 1844, the MdHS is the state’s oldest continuously operating cultural institution. With over 350,000 objects and more than a million books and documents, the MdHS includes a museum, library, and press. Our program will survey this institution’s rich collections, including their rarely seen storage, an upcoming exhibition preview, and highlights from their permanent holdings.

SCHEDULE

Tours 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

  • Highlights tour with stops at the galleries and storage to view an array of glass, costumes, paintings, and quilts led by Alexandra Deutsch, VP of Collections & Interpretation.
  • Furniture workshop of Maryland “Golden Age” furniture with Elisabeth Mallin, Decorative Arts Trust Associate Curator.

  • A special access preview of the upcoming fashion exhibition “The Spectrum of Fashion” led by Allison Tolman, Chief Registrar/Associate Curator of the Fashion Archives; and Emily Bach, Research Associate of the Fashion Archives.

  • Tour of the world’s largest collection of Peale family paintings with Michelle Fitzgerald, Curator, Homewood Museum, John Hopkins University

Transportation:
For those of you joining us in Annapolis for our spring Symposium, we will be providing transportation to the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel following the conclusion of our program at MdHS.  Members requiring a transfer will be asked to pay $25 to cover transportation costs.

Cost:
The program is free of charge for registrants not requiring transportation to Annapolis at the end of the tour and is restricted to 50 participants. Registration is limited to current members of the Trust. As per our membership policy, members at the Benefactor-level and above may register a non-member as a guest.
