Join academic and Art Deco specialist, Markus Winter for this extraordinarily special trip to Berlin where, with exceptional access, we will explore this previously overlooked chapter of German design history. In conjunction with his successful book launch by the same name last year, Markus reveals a Berlin at the fulcrum of Central European design styles between 1910-1930.

This three day small group tour, follows the recent publication of Markus’ book, Berlin Deko, and is a culmination of twenty years of research into the tension between two currents of German Art Deco: Expressionist Rococo and New Objectivity.

The tour will focus on major works of the era including private villas, industrial temples, cultural institutions, and sacred spaces. Special access to these buildings will give us insight into the changing relationship between interior and exterior in the city during this time.

The Berlin Deko Tour is an architectural journey through Berlin and Potsdam, exploring how masterpieces by architects such as Peter Behrens, Jean Krämer, Erich Mendelson, or Ludwig Mies van der Rohe have shaped modern life. At each stop, experience distinct ideas of modernity. The tour balances observation and discussion, allowing time for reflection at each site.
