Textiles from the Deep: Findings from the H.L. Hunley Submarine

Join Curator of Historic Textiles Virginia Theerman along with Johanna Rivera-Diaz, Senior Conservator of Archaeological Materials and Collections Manager, and Melissa Allen, Conservator, at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center for a tour of The Charleston Museum’s newest exhibition, Textiles from the Deep: Findings from the H.L. Hunley Submarine.

This exhibition, in partnership with the Friends of the Hunley and the Warren Lasch Conservation Center, invites you to journey with us to the bottom of the ocean and discover exciting new findings from the H.L. Hunley submarine. Never before on display, recently conserved textile remnants and personal objects can provide insight into the lives of the crew before they met their untimely end. Combining extensive scientific study with unique historical context, this exhibition will present fresh perspectives on this maritime mystery.

Conversations with a Curator allows visitors a chance to have an in-depth look at an object or exhibit in the Museum galleries, ask questions and spark conversations. The Charleston Museum’s collections are both extraordinary and diverse and each Curator-led talk and tour allows participants to immerse themselves in a different aspect of Charleston’s rich history.

All Conversations with a Curator programs are open to the public and FREE for Members or FREE with admission. Non-member registration fee covers Museum admission.
