The Oxbow Since Thomas Cole
Local author Jonathan Moldover will talk about his book, “The Oxbow Since Thomas Cole: The Story of a Landscape, a Painting and a Community.”
Thomas Cole’s 1837 painting of the Connecticut River Oxbow is world famous. But in February of 1840, a flood and ice jam gave the river enough force to carve a new channel creating the landscape we know today. The land area once part of Hadley is now part of Northampton. The program will review the history of the Oxbow since then including the logging and sawmill industries from 1872 to 1915.
Program is free.
